IVCA Leisure Cycle 23rd November 2003

There was a good turn out for the Leisure Cycle on Sunday 23rd November. 23 riders took part in what was as much a social occasion as it was a cycle, as many of the riders had not seen each other for a while.

The morning was bright and crisp with caution advised as frost remained in sheltered parts of the road. The route wound its way from the Papal Cross to Dunboyne and out on to the Trim road through Batterstown then left for Culmullen and on to the Summerhill road for the return journey to the park. The traffic lights at the top of the hill at Carpenterstown caught out most of the riders and many were heard to mutter under their breath about being in the  wrong gear  when the lights turned green. However it was all taken in good fun.

The distance of just over 40 miles was run off at an average speed of 15.2 mph which is ideal for a flat course with little or no wind.

All who took part agreed it was an enjoyable event and look forward to the next one on Sunday 14th December starting at the Papal Cross 10.00 am.
