I V C A LEISURE LEAGUE - ROUND 2
There was a great air of enthusiasm in the carpark at the Pope’s
Cross on Sunday last as several cycling groups gathered for their
Sunday spin and the weather was ideal – cold, calm and dry.
Round 2 of The Leisure League attracted a good mix of the usual
suspects, some new members and a few visitors, making a very good
turnout overall. The tour was led out the Ashtown Gate by David
Blake and Pat Murphy, who kept a very steady pace, through Cabra,
Finglas, Dublin Airport and towards The Naul where that Ould Nag
once again split the bunch.
A regrouping / comfort stop had been arranged for just around the
corner and some people stopped off here for tea.
The Tour headed across to Balbriggan and down along the coast to
Skerries for the homeward journey. Some stopped for tea in Skerries,
the remaining 25 or so cyclists were led back to the park by Willie
Lawlor and Lar Cully, who did a great job, as the group stayed together
all the way to the Park.
A special word of thanks to David Blake, Pat Murphy, Willie Lawlor
and Lar Cully for their trojan work up front and to Teresa Murphy
who did a brilliant job as sweeper (I know, I was swept up!). The
spin was 90km, everybody was back in the Park well before 2.00pm
and 2 Leisure League points were awarded for the event. Thankfully,
apart from one puncture, there no incidents this year and long may
this continue!!
Round 3 of the league is the 50 in 4 which starts at 9.00am at
the Pope’s Cross on Sunday 18th March. This is the first of
3 qualifying tours for The Touring League Silver Medal.
