IVCA Hill Climb September 30th
In spite of the wet conditions, a total of 27 riders turned out
on 30 September for the final race of the season, the IVCA Hill
Climb at Kilmacanogue. In spite of the rain, the morning was quite
warm and not too windy. Not that this made the climb of the Sugarloaf
any less steep!
Last year's defending champion, Stephen McNally, meant business
when he posted a time of 8:08, two seconds faster than his 2006
time. However, it was Daryl Bent who produced the fastest time
of the day with a staggering 7:54. For his effort, Daryl took
home the Hill Climb Cup, sponsored by Hunt Security, a Killarney
Crystal bowl and 100 Euro for breaking last year's fastest time
(again sponsored by Karl Naylor of Hunt Security). Stephen McNally
was second fastest in 8:08, with Billy Bourke third with a time
of 8:28.
On Handicap time, the victor was Henry Whelan, with Billy Bourke
and Barry Redmond completing the podium placings.
The tea and sandwiches afterwards provided an opportunity for
a chat at the end of a long racing season. Many thanks to Karl
Naylor for his continued sponsorship of the Hill Climb, to Paddy
Fitzsimons for the spot prizes, and to Donal O'Connell and Willie
Marks on the stopwatches.
