The
2007 AGM. A brief report.
Chairman John Lawless thanked all those who had organised
and sponsored events throughout the year, and acknowledged
the debt we owe to the founding members of the Association
for building and developing what has become a very big sporting
and social outlet for so many cyclists.
Secretary, Paddy Fitzsimons, echoed the Chairman’s
thanks to all those who had helped throughout the year in
any way.
Touring and Leisure
Gay Farnan thanked those who had given their time to organise
the touring rides and indicated his willingness to continue
serving as a Director of the IVCA in 2008 if the organising
of the touring events was again shared out amongst the members.
165 members took part in at least one event, but only 7 members
earned Silver Touring Medals for completing the 50 in 4, the
Wicklow 200 and the 100 in 8. Frank Rooney was the overall
winner of the Leisure League for the second successive year,
with maximum points for participating in all events.
Wicklow 200
Henry Whelan thanked everyone who had helped make the event
a success and paid particular tribute to the sponsors, who
included TQ Papers, Leyden’s Cash and Carry, the Cycle
Superstore, Wheelworks, Treasury Holdings and Usher Insulations
[apologies if the writer has omitted anyone]. The input of
all those who helped out on the day, particularly the Farnan
family and friends, was also warmly acknowledged by the members.
Racing Activities:
Jimmy Lally provided a report on racing activities in 2007.
He acknowledged the work which the Race Committee, along with
Donal O’Connell and Willie Marks, had done to organise
the racing throughout the year. A total of 41 days’
racing had been provided to members. In all, over 160 riders
took part in events. The most popular events were Sunday DMSs,
with an average of 67 riders. At the other end of the scale,
Sunday TTs had an average of 34 riders.
There were 30 different race winners in the Sunday and Tuesday
Leagues. All age categories and all Ability Groups were included
in the list of winners. One rider – Sean Lally –
won an unprecedented 12 races.
