East Meath Tour - Sunday 18th January 16 riders set out from the Papal Cross on Sunday last 18th Jan.in the 1st round of the 2004 Leisure League. It was very frosty early in the morning which may have prevented some more from taking part however by the 10.00am start the temperature had risen a few degrees and the frost had melted from all but sheltered parts. The main roads were clear but were very dirty from grit that had been laid down previously. Some riders that were cycling behind others that did not have mudguards fitted looked like they had just come out of a coal mine. The group including two ladies stayed close together up to the first climb for Moynalvey where it split only to reform again before Dunsaney and remained so until Dunshaughlin. The ladies went their own way from here and the rest stayed together up to Clonee when the speed increased as it tends to do close to the finish and allows the racers present to stretch their legs. |
Gay Farnan, winner of the Leisure League 2003 The total distance of 43 miles was covered at an average speed of 16.1 mph with all remaining riders arriving back safely and no punctures. It was an enjoyable cycle for the time of year and hopefully we will get a few more out for the next round on Sunday 15th Feb. 2 points were awarded for this round. Tour of North Dublin on Sunday February 15th starting at the Papal Cross at 10.ooam |
